Rhinoplasty (Nose Surgery)

Rhinoplasty in Scottsdale and Phoenix, AZ

Rhinoplasty (nose surgery), is sometimes referred to as nose reshaping or a nose job. In many cases, individuals are simply unhappy with the size and shape of their nose.  They want to improve the appearance and proportion for a more aesthetically pleasing nature. However, others may require rhinoplasty to correct breathing problems.  This can be due to a congenital malformation of the nose or a previous trauma. There are several different aspects that the procedure can target depending on your specific case.  This includes nose size, nose width, nose profile, exaggerated nasal tip, large or wide nostrils, and/or nasal asymmetry and deviation. During your consultation with Dr. DeVito  you can discuss your specific desires regarding a nose job. You will receive valuable feedback from a board-certified plastic surgeon with years of experience in different types of rhinoplasty procedures.

The Procedure

Dr. DeVito is a board-certified plastic surgeon in Scottsdale that is highly experienced in performing the rhinoplasty procedure. Rhinoplasty can be performed by an otolaryngologist (ear, nose, and throat specialist), a maxillofacial surgeon (jaw, face, and neck specialist), or a plastic surgeon. Usually, in cases of elective cosmetic surgery, rhinoplasty is done by a board certified plastic surgeon. The surgery is designed to create a functional, aesthetic, and facially proportionate nose by separating the nasal skin and the soft tissues from the cartilaginous nasal framework and correcting them as required for form and function by suturing the incisions, and applying either a package or a stent to immobilize the corrected nose to ensure the proper healing of the surgical incision into its new form.

Recovery Period

After undergoing rhinoplasty, the patient can return home to rest and recover, allowing the nasal cartilage and bone tissues to heal the effects of having been forcefully cut during the procedure. Along with the help of prescribed medications (such as antibiotics and analgesics) to alleviate pain and aid in wound healing, the patient recuperates in about 1-week. Post-operatively, external sutures are removed after approximately 1 week; the external cast is removed after approximately 1-week; the stents are removed within 3–14 days; and the bruising around the eyes will usually heal around 2-weeks after the surgery. Throughout the first year following the procedure, the tissues will shift moderately as they settle into being a new nose. Although any surgical procedure involves risk, countless amount of research has been done on rhinoplasty and most literature agrees that it is a relatively safe procedure.
