Breast Augmentation (Boob job) Scottsdale and Phoenix, AZ
Breast augmentation, or boob job is the most common cosmetic surgery procedure in the United States, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS).
A “boob job” or breast augmentation is a plastic surgery procedure involving insertion of silicone or saline breast implants. The implants will be either behind the breast tissue or under the chest muscle. The procedure makes smaller breasts appear larger by adding additional volume.
Most women undergo breast augmentation for one of three reasons:
- Primary augmentation, where the goal is to aesthetically augment the size, form, and feel of the breasts. The implants can balance breasts that are asymmetrical by restoring loss of fullness lost from age or as a result of pregnancy.
- Primary reconstruction with the goal to replace breast tissue lost by trauma (accidents), disease (breast cancer), or anatomical development.
- Revision and reconstructive breast augmentation to correct flaws or complications from a previous breast augmentation procedure.
What to expect BEFORE breast augmentation:
The first step for anyone in the Phoenix area is to schedule a consultation with Dr. DeVito at our Scottsdale office. DeVito is well-trained and experienced to perform breast augmentation for any and all body types. During your consultation, you will discuss your desired results and receive feedback from Dr. DeVito. She will examine your breasts to see if your desired results are achievable. Having reasonable expectations for the procedure is just as important as being in good overall health. You may want a modest increase in breast size to balance your body shape or be looking for a significant increase in breast size to change your look.
You will undergo a detailed pre-operative checkup to ensure you are a good candidate for breast augmentation and are healthy enough to undergo a surgical procedure. Dr. DeVito will walk you through step-by-step to ensure that you are comfortable and ready to make your dream body a reality.
What to expect AFTER breast augmentation:
You should get adequate rest for a few days after your surgery. Most patients are able to resume most of their normal life activities within the first week following the procedure. We advise patients to refrain from any strenuous activity, such as heavy lifting, for the first four to six weeks after breast augmentation. You will be prescribed medication for pain relief and muscle relaxation. Most patients experience some degree of swelling which will gradually subside. The surgical scars usually heal within 6-weeks and fade within several months following the procedure. The final result will ultimately depend on your particular skin type and pattern of healing. Breast augmentation in general is considered a safe procedure although a few potential complications may occur. These include bleeding, infection, changes in nipple sensation, and capsular contracture.
